We’re past protests and riots…it’s time to get POWER!

A few years ago I used to write about my support for Black Lives Matter, and I still support them to this day but the older I’ve got the more I realized that we (black people) must move past protests and riots. We need to gain Power. Is there a time and place for protests? Absolutely, but we’ve passed that. With the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery and the never ending cases of police brutality in the States (and Canada!) we have to ask ourselves…are protests and riots working? Are hashtags enough? About 10 years ago Trayvon Marton got shot and Zimmerman is still walking in Florida as a free man. We protested, we had riots, we had town halls, discussions, hashtags and what did they do? Nothing.

Nothing of substance, nothing noteworthy. Weather it’s Tamir Rice, Sandra Bland, Philando Castille and now Ahmaud Arbery…have we really found a long lasting solution? No! So here’s my proposition…let’s get Power! How do we get power? We used the black vote, we elect black politicians who will represent us in city hall and hold the police accountable. We promote black lawyers, attorneys and police men/women to look BEYOND the badge and have our interests. We donate and volunteer for pro-black initiatives and organizations. We learn how to protect ourselves with guns and knowledge about the law, so when these racists run up on us we can defend ourselves and our families.

WE GAIN POWER! If someone comes to you looking for a fight you better be ready to punch them in the mouth! They have to feel our power, not with words, or pickets or marches…no, This ain’t the 1960’s, it’s 2020! Let’s get power and use it to our advantage. When these racists go on trial they face a black judge, a black prosecutor, a black jury, a black police officer and a black justice system that is JUST.

Imagine if black people decided to stop trying to be rappers and ballers and decided to become politicians and lawyers? Imagine what kind of society we would have…I promise you Ahmaud wouldn’t be dead today, he would be celebrating his 25th birthday in a 2 parent stable upper middle class household.
