New Years Resolutions and other lies

New Years Resolutions and other lies

It’s that time of year again, everyone and their mama are joining the gym, she’s smoking her last pack, gonna finally save up for that Cuba trip, gonna finally stop drinking. Its some bullshit, we all know it. Yes objectively speaking these are all good goals, they’re admirable and really really good. But let’s get real, no one will follow these resolutions. They’re built on a failing structure. So you’re going to tell me that every 365 days you make a fundamental change your behavior and the attributes that define you. Fam, if your diet consists of burgers everyday or eating out every night then what the hell will January 1st change? If you’re smoking a pack a day then what the hell will a countdown do to change your mind? If you’re getting blackout drunk every weekend what the hell difference will next weekend make? People need to realize that change, especially drastic change is something unnatural. Why?

Few Things on My Mind

Its been a while, So I’ll just talk about a few things on my mind.

1. Black Lives Matter, and you’re dumb if you disagree. There’s been a ton of injustice happening in the states and as a black man I must address it in some forum, its wrong and racist. Institutional and systemic, the only way to fight it is to display it and protest against it. Ignorance is bliss if we ignore police brutality and diminish it we get this narrative called “All Lives Matter”, as if Black lives matter is stating that black lives are the only ones that matter. If all lives matter than we should focus on the lives that are being shortened and treated less, namely, the lives of black people like Philando Castille, Alton Sterling, Sandra Bland, Mike Brown, Tamir Rice, etc. If we were in a crowd for a Kanye concert and someone passed out mid show we wouldn’t just ignore them, we’d help them out because his or her Life matters. Black people have been dealt a terrible hand in Western society, if we are willing to say that all lives matter we must accept that Black lives matter we are treated like it doesn’t.

2. The Hypocrisy of Hip Hop has gone too far. We are living in a time where hip hop is at its peak in terms of popularity, not lyrically. Its at its peak production wise as well, but its also at its peak of dumb ignorant fans. Fans that literally think Gucci Mane is cloned because he’s not on drugs and fat. Fans who respect an artist who copies waves and has a sweatshop of writers (Jimmy Brooks) than a true MC who has bars (Budden). Fans support rappers who are about the fuckery rather than lyricists, obviously theres a time and place for ratchetivity but we can’t be fans of it 24/7! Ya I love Kodak Black but you should listen to Wale’s Summer on Sunset, its fire.

3. Being Different is good, never let anyone tell you otherwise. Continue reading “Few Things on My Mind”

Late Night Thoughts (vol. 1)

As I sit here at 1:35 AM on a Sunday morning, with a lot of thoughts in mind I decided to do something I haven’t done in a while: write to the readers. I have focused on poems and poetry as a means of expression because it has been fluid, clear and interesting. But it is good to stir the pot from time to time. This is the middle of May, and a lot has happened since my last blog post. By no means will this be a journal of my life or a world events type of post, but a quick summary wouldn’t hurt. Prince has died from a prescription drug overdose, fires at Fort McMurray, Trump dominance, Drake has “Views” and so forth. My life has been the same and that’s pathetic. Where am I going with this? I want to analyze the value of change. A lot of us take it for granted, change is amazing. We walk through this world expecting a routine in our lives. Wake up, brush teeth, shower, dress up, work (or school), back home, relax (0r homework), sleep, repeat. It’s sad. We are afraid of change. It’s something we want but fear. It’s been a theme that’s been surrounding my head ever since 2016 started, the desire of change but the fear of it as well. I can only speak about myself but have you ever felt that change was something you need but were not ready to take? It is like that assignment or project that is due but you keep pushing it off as if it will magically create and finish itself. It’s that text you thought you sent but got distracted by something else. It’s that song you said you would look up but forgot about it. That is what change is.

We all want change. It’s something I’ve been looking for recently. We all want to climb that mountain and face that challenge, to get uncomfortable. The issue with change is that it involves vulnerability, a trait that many people try to hide. A lot of young people (below 25 typically) have a large fear of being vulnerable. I’m not speaking for everyone, I’m just speaking for the Ottawa, Canadians I know (small number of people). That’s the real reason we are afraid of change. I believe in John Locke’s philosophy of tabula rasa, we are all born a “blank slate” but the experiences we have and the influence we get from our environment suppresses our natural adventurous spirit. We are afraid of being vulnerable. I am one example of this. We are afraid of looking “soft” so we hide behind a mirror of consistency. We follow an imaginary line that we created. A line of how we “should” act, what we “should” do and who we “should” do it with. We are afraid of looking weak, when the strongest people are the ones that embarced change. We build a wall of routine, chill in a Jacuzzi habits within a home of comfort while never trying to change the setting. Once we build this land we are afraid of that big unknown, change. We are fascinated by it, like a zoo animal but we look and don’t touch. This isn’t a critique of our generation, this is not a critique of our city, our people, our country, our culture, it’s an observation of how people are. It is a mirror I’m placing on my own face. That life is more than what we construct. It is about the unknown.

We are not guaranteed a day on this earth, we are not promised life. We live in an ever changing speck of dust in the universe and we have arrogance to stay the same. Nah bro, that ain’t for me. So get uncomfortable, do weird things, go on adventures because that is what life is meant for. We will all be eaten by worms, decompose and return to dirt but before that happens we must constantly try to change. As I write this at 2:08am on a Sunday morning, I want all of us to change from our way of thinking to our way of life.

Goodnight beloved

@wokeprincess you ain’t slick either

my response to: https://plushbabe.wordpress.com/2015/12/06/ayesha-curry-you-aint-slick-boo/

i read your post, it was well written but i disagree with you on several points and as a black man i will voice my opinions. a little back story: Ayesha Curry tweeted about this “trend” of women wearing less and less while she decides give show the goods to the one who matters (her husband Steph). i recommend you read @wokeprincess post about the tweet but she blew this way out of proportion. i go to “feminist twitter” and see women, like the previously mentioned, equate what Ayesha tweeted as “sexist” “misogynist” and “prude”. while her critique has formal reasoning, it was an attack on black men clothed in a rational tweet by a successful, happy, classy woman, Ms.Curry.

i wouldn’t consider myself a feminist but i agree that women should have the same rights as men, women should do whatever they want with no restrictions. sleep with whomever, dress however, and speak however they want BUT my issue is that our generation has gone TOO FAR. the essence of what Ayesha was tweeting is this “value yourself, don’t let everything show, be unique, be different, don’t follow trends” plain and simple.

this is why @wokeprincess blog post was wrong and invalid. if she calls herself a true feminist then she should support what Ayesha tweeted rather than claim that she was slandering all “liberated” women. if you look at social media today most women are out there twerkin for likes, posting nudes for attention and thirst trappin for validation. ass shots just to claim they got a “fatty” when deep down they’re just an empty vessel (peep my poem before this post). at some point we must stop this bizarre standard. where a woman ain’t poppin if she has less than 500 followers, booty pics and 30 guys in the DMs. we as a generation are infested with the celebration of hoes and the rejection of good women. y’all are quick to worship Kim K or Kylie while ignoring Malala Yousafzai, Elizabeth Ho,ms, Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

why is it more poppin to be a “Bad Bitch” (Amber Rose wrote a how-to manual) rather than being the next Oprah? this is why black men are backing up Ayesha Curry. thee rational men out there see this trend, we don’t go out of our way to slander women who are sexually liberal, we are against this counter culture. this hate and disdain for women who don’t wanna look naked on IG. nowadays women would rather be thotting around than be something…actually achieving something instead of hitting up Dr. Miami or the genetic lottery. these women would rather trap a nigga with their looks, ass titties rather than a damn personality, intellect and nurturing spirit.

this is why @wokeprincess ‘s post is a problem, on the surface it reinforces the problem of slut shaming. but it uses a terrible example by attacking a classy woman. It projected an angry attitude towards the select few women who chose to be different, who chose to go against the grain. men regardless of race agree that it’s better to have a diamond than a pebble, a classy woman over a hoe. diamonds are special, they’re rare, they’re class, they’re hard to get, while pebbles are easy to find. i encourage women to speak up against this over-saturation of hoeness.

i have two younger sisters and seeing this message reminds me of the dangers that they’ll face. they will get bashed for choosing to be different, for going to university, being positive, being confident, showing class, restraint and having the integrity to stand out in  sea of “bad bitches”. i’d rather see them become the next Oprah than IG models, more Ayesha Curry than @wokeprincess
